Legitimate interests – we read and store messages so that we can respond in the way that the sender would expect.

Making a donation

Name, email, address, telephone number, payment information

Legitimate interests – this information is necessary for us to fulfil the intention of donating money and the expectation of receiving a confirmation message.


If anyone is kind enough to support our work by online payment, their information will be captured by one of our secure third-party payment processors that specialises in the secure online capture and processing of financial transactions. The companies we use to process these online transactions are PayPal and Adyen NV.

Accepting a hedgehog into our care

Name, address, telephone number, gift aid declaration

Legitimate interests - we hold this information on a triage sheet that is completed when the hedgehog arrives and is accepted into our care.  The information is necessary for us to fulfil the intention of returning the hedgehog to the finder, where appropriate.  It is also required to submit gift aid claims.

2. How We Use Your Data


We use your data in a manner that is appropriate to the purpose for which the data were collected. For example, we may use your data to:


  • reply to enquiries;

  • handle donations or other transactions that the donor initiates;

  • return hedgehogs to the site at which they were found;

  • manage Gift Aid declarations.

We do not sell or rent personal information to third parties. Your data will be passed to third parties in the following circumstances:


  • when required by law to do so, for example, by a court order or for the purposes of prevention of fraud or other crime;

  • when you ask us to do so.



4. How Long We Keep Your Data


We take the principles of data minimisation and removal seriously and ensure that we collect the minimum amount of data for the associated purpose and delete those data promptly once they are no longer required.

  • to access to your personal information;

  • to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner if you feel your rights have been infringed.


If wishing to exercise any of your rights you should contact us.  We shall act in accordance with your instructions as soon as reasonably possible.

We do not use cookies to collect personal data during visits to our website.  Our website may, from time to time, contain links to and from the websites of other like-minded organisations.  If you follow a link to or from any of these websites, these ‘external’ websites have their own privacy policies and we do not accept any responsibility or liability for their policies.  The privacy policies for these external websites should be checked before submitting your personal data.



7. Website Users And Inappropriate Website Content


If anyone posts or sends any content that we believe to be inappropriate, offensive or in breach of any laws, make defamatory statements on our social media pages, we may use their personal information to inform relevant third parties such as their internet provider or law enforcement agencies.
